The construction of the AVE (high-speed train) from Medina to Mecca, Saudi Arabia

THE NEW “AVE TO THE MECA” WAS INAUGURATED; AND A SPANISH CORPORATE CONSORTIUM IN WHICH OPER-TRAIMER PARTICIPATES AS THE MAIN FORWARDED CARRIED OUT THE CONSTRUCTION.

The company, with more than 30 years of experience in the international transport of merchandise and belonging to the holding company GRUPO ALONSO, has been assisting the multinational Cobra-Railways for the last four years in Saudi Arabia. Oper- Traimer now is consolidated, as well as the Group Company specializing in major projects and works.

Madrid, January 5, 2018. On December 31, the AVE that joins Mecca and Medina successfully completed its first journey to inaugurate this new high-speed line. The first trip attended by Saudi and Spanish authorities such as the local transport minister, the president of the Saudi Railways Organization (SRO) or Álvaro Iranzo, and our ambassador in the host country.

The mega project has lasted 10 years and was granted to a Spanish consortium made up of 12 companies in 2012, with an allocation of 6,736 million euros. Within this business group is the multinational engineering Cobra operating with its subsidiary "Railway", which was assigned the facilities, catenary (cables) and signaling; and which Oper-Traimer has assisted during the last 4 years of the construction of the AVE.

The main functions of the Alonso Group company in the project have an integral coverage: from the coordination of suppliers; receipt of charges; storage, stowage and transport in containers 20', 40', Open Top, Flat Racks, Mafi; air services; until deliveries on site.


With these services provided during the construction phase, the freight forwarding company has managed hundreds of services, coordinating up to 40 suppliers. In this period, they have been loaded and transported from a catenary (cables) of fourteen meters in length to electrical equipment of more than three meters. At the end of the construction, the total of TEU`s that have been taken from Spain to Saudi Arabia can be counted in more than eight hundred; thus getting to contribute to the project has been a success completed according to the expected times.

Despite the completion of the work, Oper-Traimer plans to continue working with the powerful multinational, providing the necessary logistics services in all maintenance of the facilities for the next 20 years.
